The APComm executive are elected to post every two years by members and this year there is the opportunity for members to stand for the post of an APComm Vice Chair.

Vice Chairs are elected for a two-year period, and any member of APComm is welcome to stand. We currently have four Vice Chairs, but our ambition is to have eight, with the additional roles helping us to even better meet the delivery of the APComm Business and Training Plan.

You do not need to be a Head of Communications to stand – you just need to bring commitment, and a vision for supporting colleagues delivering police communications.

Elections take place around the time of the APComm Academy (being held 15-17 November 2022), providing the opportunity for those standing for a Vice Chair post to chat with members about their vision and what they will bring to the role.

If you wish to stand for a Vice Chair post, you will be asked to provide a head and shoulders picture and a vision statement (no more than 400 words) on what you will bring to the role. These will be posted on the APComm website to inform members’ decision-making.

Members vote by organisation, with each member team having the opportunity to state their first and second preference of candidates standing for the role.

All you need is permission from your line manager and your Chief Constable. In return, you will get a chance to network with colleagues across policing and partners, the opportunity for a ‘big picture’ view of the communications landscape, and the chance to work with members to shape the future of your professional association.

Vice Chairs will deliver a bespoke set of workstreams, sometimes individually, and sometimes working with peers. Your interest may be training and CPD, digital futures, creative content, multi-media, wellbeing – these are just some examples of skills you may bring to the executive. Not only does being an APComm Vice Chair enable you to share your knowledge and skills to benefit others, it’s also a great opportunity for you to develop.

So, if you have what it takes, please stand - you can submit your nomination here.
